I suspect..... that we only know they are 13 billion light years away due to assumptions that are made about the formation of stars etc. I expect that they are very sound assumptions but if the universe is only 6000 years old then all assumptions of that sort fall away. Just like fossils etc you have to fall back on "it was made that way to fool you".
Personally, I would much rather consider myself a minuscule artifact of a colossal and fantastic universe than believe that the whole place is one giant fake; the creator's equivalent of a distressed table. But each to his own I guess.
