Hittng college in '98,I'd say an absence of mobiles at your school was less a sign of being "behind the times" and more a sign of it being the mid-90's, when mobiles had yet to reach the mass-market.

AgreedNo-one was expected to have a mobile until about 2001, by my reckoning.
