I thought it was because it numbed them?I was under the impression that they gave up so that their bodies would become more sensitive again so that they would be able to orgasm during intercourse or, at least, during unaided sex play with a partner.
I think guys are supposed to get the opposite -- if you're used to wanking then sex is too stimulating and you end up coming too soon. I've not experienced it though.
