As a student on gloucester road in Bristoli once sacrificed a precious pound in order to take ALL the shopping trolleys (about 25) from outside somerfield, which i then abandoned 150 yards away

Could you get sufficient trollies so that you could bend the row of them and link the front trolley into the end trolly?
Thus (1) retrieving your pound and (2) rendering the whole thing immobile without removing the lock from one of the machines?
For bonus points, wrap 'em round a lamppost before locking them together...

i too like this and am disatisfied with the lack of win in my OP.
i suspect many many trolleys would be needed for such a feat though.
