This is a question Spoilt Brats

Mr Newton sighs, "ever known anyone so spoilt you would love to strangle? I lived with a Paris Hilton-a-like who complained about everything, stomped her feet and whinged till she got her way. There was a happy ending though: she had to drop out of uni due to becoming pregnant after a one night stand..."

Who's the spoiltest person you've met? Has karma come to bite them yet? Or did you in fact end up strangling them? Uncle B3ta (and the serious crimes squad) wants to know.

My kids NEVER had tantrums.
Not one, ever.

I avoided them by enforcing the nap regime.

Young children get tired very quickly and can't be reasoned with.
They become so befuddled that they can only scream - imagine if you were on your feet for 24 hours solid and were then asked to fix your mate's computer. You'd probably react the same way!

So I would put the baby/toddler to bed when they needed it instead of keeping them up, and they never got into the habit of grizzling.

Worked for me.

I've got a 12 week old...
So I'll follow your advice with interest. She's already a nightmare when she's overtired!

I hate it when I tell the in-laws that she's tired, so they start waving toys and things in her face to cheer her up. Just like when you're tired and getting ready to bed, and someone comes in and starts playing speed metal at you at top volume

Oh, exactly. That's just what it must be like.
They suddenly become exhausted, rather than flagging a bit like we do. They need to be whisked off to beddy-bys at the first rub of an eye.

Are you
fit scarf-wearing TV child shrink, Dr Tanya Byron?

That helped me, too
That and never backtrack yourself: "I know I said no, but just this once..."

This.

Plus, while the wee ones are napping, you can either get something done or get some rest yourself. Bonus!

Yup,
and when you have more than one, if you can cleverly synchronise their naps you're still guaranteed some peace.

Absolutely Spot On
Growing is hard work so it stands to reason they need loadsa kip - the real little shits I encounter are the one with TVs, Pcs etc in their bedroom who can stay up until midnight at the age of five, and then people wonder why they are batshit insane.

(4 1/2 yr old Demon Son and nearly 2 year old Angel of Mass Destruction, for the record)
