I can see what you meanwe're in quite a similar situation here other than most people dont want to live at home but elsewhere, in a flat with mates or student halls. Mostly so that they can have lots of sex without being bothered by mummy and daddy. But most people still get help from their parents at least until they finish uni.
In fairness there's no such thing as a student loan to help with costs here, so I don't know. I give lessons to supplement my income, but I know it's not bad in comparison to most other people's already.

YepI used to teach too to get some extra money, as my parents wouldn't give me a lot for expenses (still, I never complained, I felt quite ashamed they had to pay for me at all)
