I'm old and cheap: The incident took place around 1979. (I place the year by the vehicle I had.) Steel-lined thermos' were new and my glass-lined one was old. It might have even been my father's. I still have a glass-lined thermos of his in my house.
Yeah, I've replaced a few glass liners in my day, but not since then. I did purchase a steel thermos and I concur with your endorsement.
