DIY Techno-hacks
Old hard drive platters make wonderfully good drinks coasters - they look dead smart and expensive and you've stopped people reading your old data into the bargain.
Have you taped all your remotes together, peep-show-style? Have you wired your doorbell to the toilet? What enterprising DIY have you done with technology?
Extra points for using sellotape rather than solder.

You're not the only apparently
When I was younger my Dad bought an ancient 2nd hand van.
It obviously had had electrical issues, as every single fuse had been replaced with a kit-kat wrapper to prevent it from shorting out all the time.

There's also the story about the bloke who replaced a fuse with a bullet
and shot himself in the 'nads when it warmed up.
