Fantastic pick-up rhyme this one...Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Chilli is hot,
...and you are not.
you see, if I had "and so are you" as the last line girls would get the wrong impression and think that I actually fancy them. That wouldn't work and they would run off and scream and stuff.
