Moving to the USAWhen ex-hubby and I moved here, instead of doing the sensible thing and opening a bank account in the US, then transferring the money electronically from the UK, we decided to cash out 9,000 pounds, exchange it for $14,500 and carry it on the plane and through customs.......we even declared it! The customs guy told us to put $10,000 on the form, as you cannot bring more than that cash into the country.
I always cash my paychecks before putting them in the bank so I have a tendency to carry $1500 around for a day or 2 every week.
