This is a question Tightwads

Tell us about measures that go beyond simple belt tightening into the realms of Mr Scrooge.

Not tight I don't think, just bright, but maybe that make's me all the tighter (I've said tight too much).

At my old office there was a lovely, big Sainsbury's that I'd go to for my lunch and I would always go to the refrigerated, going out of date section to pick up a delicious bargain.

Absolutely.
Every time.

I mean, you're going to eat it right away, makes sense.

Best before...
...or use by dates are always grossly underestimated anyway. There are so many preservatives in the damn things that they never go off.

You mean you BUY pre-made sandwiches, from a SHOP. Get off this board

Buy a sandwich?
Chicken Tikka Marsala, pasta bake, a cheese board, soup, pates, etc.

However for a cheap sandwich, go to the deli counter a pick up a melange of hams from the ham ends pile, delicious with a slap of dijon in a single bread roll.
