There's saving money, and there's being tight: saving money at the expense of other people, or simply for the miserly hell of it.

this is NOT a joke suggestion:
Have you considered borrowing and using another dog to find her?

I know dogs don't instinctively know how to follow a scent trail, they need to be trained; but you might get lucky.

I figure that since they're always into sniffing each other and have a good sense of smell, there's a fair chance of success (Use her basket/blanket for a sample perhaps).

(edit: Those very same hunters might be a solution, probably having tracking-trained dogs; maybe ask to hire their services?)
