The point of his story is he believed that living in London hadn't changed him,but he ordered a G&T when his boss ordered beer, and he believed that mushy peas (which are commonly served with fish & chips and often taste vinegary) were guacamole.
This could possibly be a reference to Channel 4's Location, Location, Location branding Middlesbrough the worst place to live in the UK, and the rant that sports presenter Jeff Stelling replied with during which he made reference to Southerners calling mushy peas "guacamole".
