My Great-Uncle left me his visitors book which along with boring people like the Queen and Harold Wilson has Spike Milligan's signature in it. It's all loopy.

Over herewe call it a frying pan or a skillet. I prefer skillet myself, for the same reason I prefer to say water heater instead of hot water heater.
