when I was littleif I had to go to the loo in the night I'd sprint back to my room and dive under the covers as soon as I flushed the chain.
For reasons I still can't explain I was convinced satan himself would leap from the flushing loo and devour my soul.

I didexactly the same thing!
I still get a little nervous even now, cant flush the loo without the lid down.
