I witnessed a crime

Epiphany (sp?)
Perhaps after stealing the maestro, he had his 'moment of clarity' and immediately killed himself in shame and embarrassment for his poor taste, repenting his sin by "SPA-A-A-A-ANG!"-ing the lamppost for the greater good?
