Made the mistake of using a certain well known chain of opticians two years ago (possibly the same as OP?)and was oversold varifocals. Soon realised it was an expensive mistake - my reading vision is fine if I take my glasses off.
Been to Specsavers today and they confirmed my view that single vision lenses are fine. Also to their credit I asked if there was any advantage in having thinner lenses and they said no, as my prescription is within the limits noted in the OP.
