I am constantly amazed by how many ways people manage to get microwave controls wrong when a timer dial is so simple and perfectly suited for the task.
My grandfather's microwaves (two of them for some reason, both different models, both equally confusing) have no timer controls at all except for the start button which you have to press repeatedly to add more time. If you want to cook something for ten minutes you have to sit there jabbing the button 20 times with the oven beeping so loudly that you can hear it from the other end of the house with every button press.
