It might find its way out eventually
I jammed a glass tube into the end of my thumb a few years back (a common lab injury!) and it healed up OK after a while. But several weeks later I began to feel a sore bit under the skin. After a bit of prodding, a little shard of glass appeared, which I was able to remove with tweezers.
