RCDs are definitely not replacements for fuseboxes
They serve very different purposes. In general:
Fuse boxes are there to prevent damage to equipment.
RCDs are there to protect people from electric shocks.
An RCD won't prevent your stereo catching fire if it has a short-circuit failure and if you touch the live wire of your domestic supply, you'll be dead and crispy before you ever blow a fuse.
