I've always wanted to know what they sound like.
I didn't think they existed last year until I was killing some time in the music department of Selfridges one lunch time last summer.

They sound great
warm and vibrant*. Not so much sustain, but you can do most of what you'd do on a normal bass.

they can sound rather scratchy and thin. not nice and tight and boomy like electric basses, or double basses.

that might have been only the ones i've playe though.
