Hastings anecdote, I've told it on here before, fucking sue me.
I went to a wedding there, about 22 years ago. As all good Scotsmen do, I wore my kilt. Walking to the venue during the day, I got some very strange (and sometimes hostile) looks from passers-by.

Walking back to the hotel along the seafront later that night, there were more comments. Some drunk girls demanding to know if I was a true Scotsman, trying to lift it up and have a look, that sort of thing.

Then there was this one bloke who was walking towards me alone with his head down, hands in his pockets. While still some way away, he glanced up, clocked the kilt, and from a distance I could see the broad grin light up his face. As we approached each other, he kept looking up, and couldn't stop grinning, so I knew that he was very pleased with the witticism he was about to unleash.

As we passed each other, he triumphantly exclaimed "ah, top o' the mornin' to ya!" in his best attempt at an Irish accent.

I just don't think anecdotes are your forte.
