Never heard of MusicMagpie before. I've seen the charity shop outchucking first hand:
Very little actually gets chucked away, at least in my experience. Clothes, shoes, bags, books, dvds, cds, records, bric-a-brac and toys all get 'ragged' (sold by the kilo to a company who ID and sell good stuff and recycle everything else).

The resellable books and media make their way to undercutting cunts like WorldOfBooks, for example. I cannot begin to describe how much I hate WorldOfBooks, but they are keeping books out of landfills.

Eventually your council will consist of saner people who understand that they live on a planet, and they will change their recycling ethos and employ better people.
