Plants "consume" dead animals all the time.
So really, "vegans" can't eat anything at all without being hypocrites.

according to the vegan society
veganism is a philosophy and a way of living which seeks to exclude - as far as is possible and practicable - all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals.
as far as is possible definitely gives them a bit of leeway.
