# Ha ha ha!
The reveal in the actual film lasts a few frames too long and always looks daft when I watch it as the alien looks like it's doing jazz-hands.

# Yep, it's a bit of a shame.
One of the best monsters in cinema history made to look a pillock.

# I can forgive it because
a: It's almost 35 years since it was made.
b: The rest of the film is awesome, and
c: It's a better film than Prometheus, which looked good but was a load of old cobblers.

# It's also a better film than Aliens
/controversial, but true

# Aliens follows all the same beats as Alien, just turned up to 11.
I do like both films though. If only they had stopped making them at Aliens.

# The longer cut of Alien 3 is much better than the cinema release
well worth checking out.

Aliens is ok, but it moves away from the 'scare' tactics of the original, and promises
much more 'gun-ho' action between marines/alien to take it fully into another area - yet there's very little of that given the run time.
It tries to be 2-3 different things and although loud and bombastic, doesn't really offer as much as the original did
/opinions on the internet lols

# I have a lot of time for 3.
Lop off the last 10 minutes of ham-fistedly trying to retrofit a bigger picture to the film, and the actual "Alien" part of the film stands up pretty well.

Plus you get Brian Glover AND Pete Postlethwaite for your money.

# and Charles Dance.
always a winner

# Yeah he's OK, but his character is far too telegraphed a "semi-romantic interlude doomed to a messy end" for him to really give it much welly.
Where as Glover and Poss both deliver in spades. "This is rumour control, these are the facts..." is a well-used addition to my day to day life :o)

# That one's passed me by but I'll have to give it a look.
Brian Glover is an actor out of the Danny Trejo mould - only ever plays one character, but does it so well that he keeps getting work and it never gets dull.
(, Mon 22 Apr 2013, 14:46, archived)
# A Brian Glover and Danny Trejo team-up.
Now that would have been interesting.

# personally
i enjoy the complete swing from gun-toting marines to mop-wielding cons

# It promised more than it delivered. I think I read that the director had a very unhappy time making it due to studio pressures.
There are moments in all the sequels that stand up, just the films overall are a bit crap.

Resurrection has a few good bits, but the aliens look sort of crap and the newborn thing is terrible. Ron Perlman though, always a bonus. AvP is cheap and cheerful. AvP2 is utter shite apart from the bit where the lass gets on the wrong end of the Predator throwing star.
(, Mon 22 Apr 2013, 14:38, archived)
# Because the monster is so good, there has been a natural tendency to tear the arse out of it.
Please, Hollywood, leave it alone.

# I got a FP out of it so it can't be all bad.

# I give them both equal billing.
They are such different films that comparison isn't that meaningful.

They both aced it in their respective genres, so it will ultimately depend on whether your preference is psychological stalkers or guns'n'ammo romps as to which side you'll come down on.
