# Embarrassingly enough, i'm RISing
on both of these. What the hell's going on, old boy?
(, Mon 17 Apr 2006, 16:52, archived)
# in the olden days it was blue screen
now it`s green screen

old George does nothing real these days, just has somebody (an actor usually) in front of the green screen and the graphics wizards fill in all the wooshy stuff
(, Mon 17 Apr 2006, 16:54, archived)
# ah. thank you kindly
you fucking geek. *snogs* :D
(, Mon 17 Apr 2006, 16:55, archived)
# I think it`s called "chromakeying" (can`t be arsed to google)
- they filter out the screen`s colour (I don`t know why it went from blue to green) on the computer and add in all the background stuffs - same way they do the weather (and you used to see a huge blurry movement around Michael Fish`s crazy jackets)
(, Mon 17 Apr 2006, 16:56, archived)

# george lucas has very famously adopted the practice of green screen
special effects. This means he does very little shooting of ACTUAL locations and just makes them on a pc afterwards.....very unconvincingly i might add
(, Mon 17 Apr 2006, 16:55, archived)
# This is quite possibly
The least humourous and geek addled thing I have ever seen
(, Mon 17 Apr 2006, 16:56, archived)
# it means that instead of spending a few thousand picking a nice location to shoot and pay a few people to make props
he can spend millions on hiring computer artists and other geeky sorts

- and yeah most of the time it looks quite naff
(, Mon 17 Apr 2006, 16:58, archived)
# Because
The Tatooine you grew up in looked nothing like that, right?
(, Mon 17 Apr 2006, 17:48, archived)
# No, it is because ...
the Tatooine I grew up watching in the original Star Wars trilogy looks nothing like that.
(, Tue 18 Apr 2006, 22:45, archived)
# cheers dude!

(, Mon 17 Apr 2006, 17:15, archived)
# Yes I was kidding
I have invested in a blue screen backdrop which is attached to a roller blind roller thingy - although I can't get to use it yet cos I don't have adequate enough lighting to make it work properly.
(, Mon 17 Apr 2006, 17:20, archived)
# i see. What are you going to use that for then?
(, Mon 17 Apr 2006, 17:23, archived)
# Dunno yet
but I wanted to do Sheep type FXs and stuff. If I don't do chromakey I can always use it as a backdrop for portrait photography.

# wow!
scathing parody - very clever
Lucas is a stupid fuck anyhow, he could take 12 minutes of live action footage and use it to make a two-hour travesty
Oh wait! He's already done it three times!
