This is a question What nonsense did you believe in as a kid?

Ever thought that you could get flushed down the loo? That girls wee out their bottoms? Or that bumming means two men rubbing their bums together? Tell us about your childhood misconceptions. Thanks to Joefish for the suggestion.

Erich Von Daniken
Oh, I cringe at the memory. I was very young and bright though, eager to read anything outlandish or "amazing".

With only rudimentary critical faculties, I lapped up all that nonsense about alien landing sites (they can cross hundreds of light years but need some lines drawn in the desert to land on?); and anti-gravity (because there's no way brown people could build big things by themselves...) Utter, utter bilge.

You shouldn't feel any shame at all.
I had all the books and everything and used to spend hours discussing this crap with my mates.
Anyway, millions of adults still gobble it up today.

Yuppers, I too fell for the Daniken bollox....
until my skeptic balls dropped at 15.

I was lucky.
I had both "Chariots of the Gods" and "Space Gods Revealed" (basically a chapter-by-chapter debunk or Von Daniken).
Sadly I've lost "Space God Revealed" -- would like to read it again.

I've read chariots
tbh was obvious bollocks even as a teen but a entertaining read non the less!

I still have Charriots so I may read it some time.
Sadly I lost both Space Gods Revealed and a book I nicked about The Philadelphia Experiment.
The old fashioned conspiracies were the best, I think.
