This is a question The Emergency Services

Tell us your tales of the police, ambulance workers, firefighters, and - dammit - the coastguard

In hindsight, this was a silly question to be asked....
So, there I was, lying on the cold hard tarmac, motorbike in pieces and leg similarly smashed up, one ambulance crew to my left, another to the right, a passing doctor on the periphery and the air ambulance landing...

Paramedic, "Right then, so where do you want to go?"

And after a brief pause as i tried to stop swearing and process the question...

Mr J.B., "Err....Hospital?"

Turns out they wanted to know which one (to which I replied "Whichever is best") i.e. closest to get to for family etc, but at the time the answer seemed pretty self-evident to me and the question worked better than the morphine at distracting my mind...

I had the same question when I last had a trip to A&E.
I happen to live in Derbyshire, but on the Nottinghamshire border. Nottinghams Queens Medical Centre is about ten minutes drive away, Derby's hospital is about thirty minutes. The choice seemed logical to me, but I suppose it was nice to have the option.

One thing that I have noticed between Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire is the price of fuel. For example, Petrol from a Nottingham Texaco is presently £1.38 a litre, yet in Derby it costs £1.32. It rarely dips below the £1.30 mark, but the difference still surpises me.

Surely it can't be sensible selling petrol in Derby cheaply given their recent form?

Another stupid question from a doctor
"...So, do you want a general anaesthetic, or would you prefer to stay awake and watch us slice your penis to shreds with sharp knives?"

I may be paraphrasing slightly.
