This is a question Little Victories

I recently received a £2 voucher from a supermarket after complaining vociferously about the poor quality of their own-brand Rich Tea biscuits, which I spent on more tasty, tasty biscuits. Tell us about your trivial victories that have made life a tiny bit better.

Lots of small victories (sorry)

Apostrophe grrrrrs
You know, I honestly admire people with a lassez-faire attitude to other people's spelling mistakes. I'd much rather be the type who thinks that every wrong-way-round "IE" or misplaced comma is some sort of right-on protest against totalitarian spelling regimes than one of those sad, bitchy pedants - but that apostrophe made me want to burn the world.

To be a grammar nazi effectively is very, very difficult, not to mention pompous, self-important, and very sad.
It means you can make no mistakes of your own, and splitting an infinitive in a phrase such as "I honestly admire" seem to display an awful lack of self-awareness.
(, Tue 15 Feb 2011, 16:19, closed)
Splitting an infinitive is perfectly acceptable in English
The only reason people think it isn't is because of Grammar Nazis in the 18th century, who a) thought Latin was in some sense "better" than any other language, and b) who wanted to sell more grammar books, so made up a whole load of arbitrary rules.
(, Tue 15 Feb 2011, 16:34, closed)
I agree.
It's part of my point.

lol

I thought split infinitives were all the rage these days
But you're right. So very right.
(, Tue 15 Feb 2011, 16:34, closed)
Wouldn't that be
'To' honestly admire? After all, the infinitive is 'to admire'.
(, Tue 15 Feb 2011, 18:24, closed)
Depends how far you want to take it - I were taught that it ain't not proper to split no verb, which is what the phrase "split infinitive" refers to:
So it should be "I admire ... honestly", or "Honestly I admire ... "

Mind, I'm from Somerset. It's different there.

I wish I was one of those people that could let it go, but...
I believe it's spelt 'laissez-faire'.

I'll fuck off now for a bit.

It seems this is a popular discussion. Why not buy the T-shirt guys? -

Let us be honest bROKEN,
it is quite refreshing to have a good-humoured bit of banter about some dodgy punctuation compared to a lot of the inane and pointless invective in some of the other threads recently. Your errant apostrophe has freed us from the shackles of nested bickering. I was beginning to think about abandoning QOTW (clearly this would represent a crushing blow to everybody) seeing as every other post seems to turn into a pissing contest.

Moral crusade over, return to your lives everybody. Good work b.a.

Cheers Number5
I too was trying to avoid all that hand bagging, as it does get tiresome, seems to be every week for the last like 4 weeks, lets face it, if a lot of it was funny we wouldn't have an issue. Baiting + un-funny makes b.a sad :( I won't mention names as I don't want to draw them/him to this thread.

Cuddle + Hug.

This has a sexual content to it.
to lay next to someone in bed usually after sexual interactions.

Wasn't sure what that was but now I do, you're o.k, besides I wouldn't want to make anyone jealous.
