I'm still at work, beeew...

But am considering sodding off early, via the booze shop and buying some delicious wines. I have earache, whcih I'm attributing to not having any wine. It's a side effect, I believe.

*coughs*

I had a hair cut today.
I feel like all shiny and new.

Evening all
I'm back from work, but soggy from rain. Got a visitor coming this weekend so need to tidy up my shithole of a room before they arrive tomorrow as it's a bit of a tip.
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 19:53, Reply)
Yay!
People turned up!

Hello ancrenne my lovely - had a good time?

Hello the rest of you. Welcome to the weekend.
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 19:54, Reply)
I have been busy on teh tinternet.

It's amazing what you can find.
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 19:56, Reply)
@al
I read that too. Apparently many maladies can be attributed to a deficiency in delicious wine.

MMmmmm, wine. Am now planning my escape.

@becky. My sympathy with the visitors and the tidying. This time next week, that'll be me. My house looks a bit like it's been ransacked.

Hey folks

*whistles merrily*

*edit*Ah yes, what al just asked.

Are you going to watch one of your Star Wars films?

I'm watching 'Reign Over Me'.

@ancrenne
You could lace it with virtual alcohol.

Anyway, glad your pants are going well and glad you and Kaol enjoyed Brighton.

May have been the morning
I was admiring his taste in mix CDs

Tomahawk, Pitchshifter, Monster Magnet and Converge on one CD. I like!

I have not heard of any of those bands.
*is old*
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 20:16, Reply)
@BGB
Really?

They've all been around for a long time except Tomahawk, who are one of Mike Patton's post-Faith No More projects.
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 20:18, Reply)
I'm off to see Converge
next Thursday in Sheffield.
Having seen their live DVD I think I'll be lucky to get out alive.
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 20:20, Reply)
Pitchshifter rings a slight bell.
And of course I used to love faith no more. I'm not really into that type of music. I was into club music for quite a while and before that I was a indie/rock sort when Guns and Roses were about. Loooong time ago.
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 20:24, Reply)
@ancrenne
It's not an age thing honestly; none of them shall be gracing anything remotely mainstream any time soon.

@edit
Yes, Pitchshifter were (are, they may have reformed) ace.
Very, very good live too.

The Foo Panda movie
is actually not too bad.

Night to those of you leaving. (can't remember who all said they were going to bed)

Edit: Not too bad means I liked it but feel I may be too old to admit it. I really liked what motivates the Panda to do things well....I happen to share the enjoyment of that particular pastime.
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 22:17, Reply)
Ooh
I loved Kung fu panda. Took me 5 attempts to watch it as I was putting it on after a hard night's b3ta'ing and falling asleep, but it's really rather good.

Edit: Night BK

(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 22:57, Reply)
I'm here a bit
Couldn't finish the film without popping by to say hi.

Re train company: I've got 50 Eurocents.

A more realistic plan is to hack into the computer that controls the points and hijack a train for our own purpouses. Of course, there's this idea too.

* in the meantime, puts straw through hole in engine and drinks cider *

Re big brother: I don't watch it. Why does it even get mentioned on the BBC news?
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 22:57, Reply)
I think the only time
I've ever seen it mentioned on the BBC is when two were evicted not on nomination night. One for being overly aggressive and cuntish - promptly had her car smashed up and house burgled. The other spat in another's face. It's Channel 4 putting on spin to show that they're taking aggressive behaviour seriously this year
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 23:00, Reply)
Big Bro
I've noticed it gets mentioned less than in previous years, but still too much!
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 23:00, Reply)
@ancrenne
Sadly it's true. I've not been paying attention at all lately, but in previous years, it was oft mentioned on the BBC news website - particularly in it's first year.

Re cat: Do you have a catflap?
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 23:03, Reply)
I don't think it was such a bad idea back then
but now it's just a freak show.

Our cat is in and out all night - we have tiny, muddy paw prints everywhere.
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 23:05, Reply)
They already exist A
you just have to have a damn good reason to have them like fireworks or a very very stressed pet.
(, Fri 11 Jul 2008, 23:07, Reply)
Ok kids,
I'm heading to bed, long day with two PTS's that always kinda drain you of good cheer today so I'm going to watch a film and get some sleep.

Well,
I wasn't living in England when it first started, so I missed all the hype etc. I thought it might have been a good study into how people reacted to living with each other under the eyes of others. Now it's beyond shit.

I am grand today, despite having been working. Took a friend shopping as she had no car, had dinner with many a friend, and possibly found myself a mountain bike. All in all, a productive day.

How are things in Engerland? And Americaland?

No Rakky, I don't think we've met. I'm a lurker person who's trying to become less lurky.

But I have posted to QOTW unmemorabley a few times (and /talk scares me when it's not 3am)

sorry, I shall be less grown up.

Ach, who am i kidding. I;ve been very VERY lucky this year that I moved 4000 miles away and managed to find group of really fab people who have been lovely and squishy to me and put up with all my rambling british ways. I can't tell you how proud I was of my perky californian undergrad the other day when while berating me for doing something twatty called me a "daft cow" in a perfect northern accent!

Oncoming Storm, I'm scared of talk too. And I lurked here for about a year before Rachelswipe made me get over myself... It happens to us all...

*cheers*

*cheekily snogs PoD*

@wanderlust, true, but for now, I shall try to play catch up...
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 0:21, Reply)
Ooo, cheeky
*snogs back*

Nice.

I lurked for a while before bothering to register. And then had to wait to post, which was just downright annoying.

One of my friends just got married and his wife has now moved here, so we now have a new person to hang out with, who is just as mental as the rest of us. Hoorahs!

I'll 'go put the kettle on' then.
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 0:33, Reply)
I posted
a bit as Rakky, before moving jobs, forgetting my password and having no email address to send it to.

Then I got a lovely gaz off rachelswipe, culmintating in a very drunken night out in Covent Garden and thats been me hooked. I've even shown my mum b3ta and she thinks it's a lovely bunch of people... She also loves hearing the Best Ofs from QOTW and regularly cries laughing at people's exploits...
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 0:36, Reply)
Sorry, wandered off to get tea
And was then distracted by chocolate hobnobs.

I'll get over the shyness :)

Night all.
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 0:42, Reply)
'lo ladies and gentlemen of the evening
Someone's putting the kettle on?

Let me catch up here:

*snogs everyone*

/talk is scary. I think I posted there one time but no one noticed. I've only looked over a few times and even that was far too much.

I lurked for a year or more before joining. I finally joined because I got tired of not being able to click "I like this" as a non-member. (remember back in teh day when you could click without having a membership?)

Does that cover everything?

Edit: Just saw this bit so here is my reply: I think there are very few merkins that actually know how to spell decorum, much less what it means. Yet you are still trying to show some? Them's posh roots, they is.
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 0:42, Reply)
@ Rakky I agree
that there's a lovely bunch of people on here.
It's just a shame that some people feel the need to be cruel.
I got a rather nasty gaz this evening that's left me feeling rather deflated.
I'm happy there's an ignore button!
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 0:43, Reply)
Wanderlust, you've reminded me of something I've been wondering
Would it be incredibly rude to put all the /talk people that come here on ignore?

I don't suppose that not so fluffeh gaz was someone complaining that you criticized their grammar quite some time ago but they are just now getting around to saying something about it was it? (in a gaz with good grammar at that)

Edit: Lovely to meet you Stormy :)
*snogs*
well, if no one else minds, I'll get in there real quick
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 0:48, Reply)
Thank you lady ancrenne.
I'm not quite sure what I did to annoy them! It's not anyone I've spoken to at all.
They just felt the need to tell me that my posts were shit and they think I'm a shallow whore.
Charming!

Ahhh well, it's fine. For every bad seed out there I know there are a million good :D

Edit:
I really think it's time for me to go to bed now. Good night all! Sweet dreams.

The tacky gaz I received today was far tamer.

might just be me and thee then

And as a transplanted Brit, I take pleasure in using 'big words' with my american collegues. That said, as most of them are graduate students, they have pretty amazing vocabularies....

where are you in the US?

EDIT: jesus, wanderlust, ignore, ignore, ignore. Not worth it...

and night all

I guess it is just you and me then.
I had no idea you were a transplant. I guess I just expect that everyone but a small handfull live in other countries.

I'm the weird one from Texas.

So you teach then? What subject?

Edit: Oh look! And then there were 3.

*hugs*

FWB, I do research, University of Chicago. Just here for a year, love it, want to move back. The midwest is just so damn friendly. :)

Where in texas? My ex's family live in Corpus Christi, I was always sad not to have gone (especially as they have their own beach!)

what's the weather like for you. hot here, bet it's worse for you...
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 1:08, Reply)
aye, i saw that
but you were being nice. so that's ok.

there are several pubs in covent garden and many many more over here in kensington with our names on them...

I'm back.
And I've just finished watching my film.

Seems this thread has been taken over by a different crew.

always nice, darling *hugs* how could I not be! and i look forward to the pub crawl that awaits me....

hello spakka, was the film good?
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 1:15, Reply)
@Rakky
It was Starwars Episode 3. It was the darkest of the series, but I enjoyed it.
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 1:18, Reply)
@spakka
I still haven't seen it. want to though.

saw 'Wanted' the other day btw, and am booking tickets to see the new Batman at the IMAX.. Both filmed in chicago you know.. I saw batman being filmed...
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 1:21, Reply)
@ Rakky
That sounds interesting. Yes, they are friendly up there. I think most of the country competes to see who is the friendliest.

I think I've been through Corpus Christi and it was lovely. I'm in the panhandle, which is the sticky-uppy part at the top of the state.

Today was nice and cool (80s) most of the day but I think it is near 90 now....yucko!

@ Rachel: If there are many pubs with your name on them, what are you doing here rather than running around having big laughs?

@ Spakka: I misssed that bit....what film did you see?
Edit: nevermind, you already answered

Rachelswipe and I have many pubs to be thrown out of, sadly, we only tried one of them before I left. I'm glad there are more that i can still show my face in... :)

So what do you do in Texas? Incidentally, I have a texan co-worker whose married name is Bush. Should I be concerned?
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 1:27, Reply)
Why I registered my b3ta account
It was so I could post my first ever QOTW answer.

Re american climates: When it comes to extreme weather, I'm a bit of a wuss, but in my defense, over here in the mild climate of north-west Europe, I cycle everywhere I go.

EDIT: @rachelswipe: you're welcome to have your own opinion.

EDIT2:@Rakky: Prevent him or her from breeding.

i tried
my ex loved them and i tried. but i think i'm just too girlie. i also can't bear red dwarf or star trek.

texas makes me think of matthew mcconn. now he is hot!
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 1:30, Reply)
Oh well, a pre-hen do, that is a good reason.
That is a good one Rakky. I've been thrown out of a few places but I don't think any of them were places of an alcoholic nature. which might be why I was tossed. A good friend of mine (for the last 20 years) and I were asked to leave our senior prom for lewd dancing...oops

I work for the courts. I'm basically what you guys call a bailiff, but for criminal collections only. And rather than taking people's stuff, I send them to jail if they don't pay. 'Tis fun!

I wouldn't worry about the Bush name, he's almost a lame duck anyway.

@ Spakka: That is a great answer! Well worth joining for.
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 1:35, Reply)
@spakka
definitely worth signing up for...

@FWB aha, okay, I get you. And the Bush girl (for she is a girl and her daddy works at the pentagon) seems pretty harmless.

@swipe, when is then hen do? it's in Ibiza, no?

@FWB & Rakky
Glad you liked it. After that QOTW, there were several I didn't have an answer for so I sort of lost interest. Did make a few posts, but it's only been since March this year that I got hooked.

I'll be here for a bit more but I keep getting interested in the TV shows my kiddo is watching.
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 2:02, Reply)
@FWB
me too!

I've been lucky with QOTW topics... I wish sometimes you could vote for answers.

ooh, blimey, second bottle of wine. Tell me, FWB, americans aren't as booze phobic as people make out. the ones i've met certainly aren't...

EDIT: noches spakka...
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 2:04, Reply)
Voting for replies would be great.
I think most are closer to being drunks than booze phobic. I don't drink much myself these days. That is mostly because I drank far too much when I was in my teens/20s and now I have small children so don't have much opportunity.

Can't think were you would have heard we were against teh drink. Is it all those crazy MADD people and religious nutters?
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 2:17, Reply)
to be fair
i've hardly drunk since i've been here.

i think maybe i've come from an obvious drinking culture and here, people still get slammed (and I've seen it)but it's less celebrated.

ooh, kids, sorry, how many, how old..

if you don't mind, i understand if you don't want to drag them into b3ta... :)
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 2:22, Reply)
Ohhhh.....
Maybe it is just in Texas where the alcohol flows like a river. And I'm in the freaking bible belt at that!

2 girls: 5 and 7
No biggie telling about them, I think almost all the stories I've posted have been about them. They are a riot.

So you have no munchkins then?
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 2:25, Reply)
no, none for me
despite being prime child rearing age...

I am one of those freaky 30 something women who doesn't dislike kids, at all, and would love to have them, i just don't see it happening. because i'd have to actually date men and all that stuff that goes with it...

that's the second bottle of wine talking - our new editor is from alabama, she said "food's a buzz kill, if you have wine, you're fine.". I could get to like her...
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 2:32, Reply)
I think I like the way your new editor thinks.
That having to date thing is such a hassle sometimes, isn't it? I wasn't actually meant to have kids, mine were both surprises. Very surprising considering I was on the pill at the time.

Ok, I think I've officially been a b3tan too long. I just spelled 'the' as 'teh' and couldn't figure out which was the correct spelling.
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 2:38, Reply)
hey, you're not the first
on the pill who will have gone "really? pregnant? oh.."

Me, however has had to explain that being pregnant, biological immpossibility. always fun.

EDIT: I had no idea why no-one normal understands the word interweb...
(, Sat 12 Jul 2008, 2:45, Reply)
Ooo...biologic impossibility, that one sucks
I'm sorry to hear it.

It is funny how things become understood after a while and it starts to change the way you read things.

Well, I need t go now. There is a new cop show starting in a few minutes. My 7 yr old is really interested in it (she loves law & order type stuff) and I need to watch it with her to make sure it doesn't have any sexy stuff. It was lovely talking to you.

'Night!
