Yawn...
bored, so I just made flapjacks.

Will my hip expansion never cease?
(, Sun 13 Jul 2008, 19:07, Reply)
oooooo Flapjacks!
I'll contribute syrup.

Anyone have butter?

Edit: I call it "Maintaining my girlish figure" rather than hip expansion.
(, Sun 13 Jul 2008, 19:13, Reply)
Right, that's what I'll call it too
'maintaining my girlish figure'

*realises is quite high maintenance*

How are you, Flirt? Have you had a good weekend?
(, Sun 13 Jul 2008, 19:17, Reply)
@ Cle
My normal quiet weekend has been altered by a sick kid. But she is well enough today to terrorize her sister so all is now well in Flirty-world.

@ Ms. A
How do you make your syrup? I do 3c sugar, 1c water, maple flavor and boil.
And building a shelf among all that? You are making me feel lazy. I should really build a shelf or something.
(, Sun 13 Jul 2008, 19:21, Reply)
Ah, I forgot the sign.
For I am a total newbie.

Thanks for the lovely comments in my post too :D

edit: @ancrenne - I have my book, my knitting (my one concession to girlishness), my DS and my ipod. I've also made sure to charge my phone and make sure all my clothes are lying out and ironed.

So I don't have too much stress tomorrow (other than Edinburgh's bloody roadworks diverting the buses...)
(, Sun 13 Jul 2008, 19:26, Reply)
Storm - since Becky told me how to put up the sign...
I like to show off as much as possible!

Plus, it's easier to get everyone together that way. You're welcome re the comments. Good luck!

You lot are all so organized and productive today!
I'm off to clean something so I can feel organized and productive too.

Yes, my Nintendo DS :D

I'm hoping to get a chance to play Resident Evil on my lunch break (as well as a knitter I'm a games freak...or just a freak ;o) )

Hello K2K6, I'm nervous about my new job and missing my boyfriend. How are you?
(, Sun 13 Jul 2008, 19:47, Reply)
Evening ancrenne
I'm jolly good thanks. I take it from my skim-reading of the last few chats that Brighton was good.

@Storm - I take it you aren't in favour of the Edinburgh trams then? I have yet to speak to someone who is. Stupid waste of money, IMO.
(, Sun 13 Jul 2008, 19:47, Reply)
@K2K6
Edinbugger are you?

I live in one of the areas that's currently getting dug up. It's a complete bitch, and Edinburgh has such a good bus service I don't see the need!
(, Sun 13 Jul 2008, 19:50, Reply)
Hello B3ta buddies.
I had the whole house cleaned spick and span by 11am today.

Who's the daddy!!!!
(, Sun 13 Jul 2008, 19:55, Reply)
@Storm
No, a bit further north - Dundee area. But I do enough travelling to see the chaos round the capital at the moment. Why they didn't just build a rail link from the airport is beyond me. The railway line runs past the end of the runway, and there's that old MoD site which is being demolished that would make an ideal station location. A couple of million quid on a station and shuttle buses and it would be sorted. With minimal disruption.

Except the powers that be decided on trams. Which are just buses that can't get out of the way.

RE: BGB's cleaning: you are da man
@ Ms. A: your version of syrup sounds yummy! That is funny that it takes you so long to build a shelf. I don't build often but I do tend to re-finish furniature. I have several pieces that I've been putting off for a couple of years now.

@ Stormy One: I've only played a Mario car racing game on the DS but I was absolutely hooked! My kids have some friends that are a couple of years older than them. Whenever the friends are to come over to play, I always tell them "Don't forget to bring your DS..."
Right now I'm hooked on this game that I got off /links:
www.onemorelevel.com/game/hedgehog_launch

So, to sum up, as it is only 2pm here, I have now ordered a pizza and put the kids in the bath. I think I have now been productive enough to deserve a break.
(, Sun 13 Jul 2008, 20:12, Reply)
@flirting with badgers
I worked in the games industry for about a year, and during our lunch breaks we used to have DS tournaments. :D

@Everyone else - all this talk of baking is making me hungry!
(, Sun 13 Jul 2008, 20:15, Reply)
Thank you Ms A, I think I shall.
Has anyone tried this new Coke with Lime? Yes I know it has been around for a bit, but it takes me longer than others to try anything new. This stuff is really good.

Edit: @ Stormy: That is cool. I think DS tournaments may be a bit advanced for me. I'm still trying to find a version of mahjong that I like enough to download. The last one I liked was from far too many years ago in computer-land and had tiles that were made for little kids so it made spotting matches really easy.

has been a while... a friend of mine was back from China so we hit the finest nightspots in the town. I managed to get headbutted by a drunken girl with whom I was talking, we saw some guy get beaten up and glassed, and then last night I ended up going dancing with a load of Bolivians.

Today I packed and mostly moved. I'm exhausted.

Yeah
it feels good. Using the last of our internet connection before moving to the temporary summer place where I may or may not have access. All I have to do tomorrow night is move the last of the stuff and then scrape off the top layer of paint where I blu tacked photos to the wall so I can get my deposit back.

Not quite sure what happened this weekend... its been an odd week. The mother of the girl I, er, like turned up on my doorstep at 11.45pm on tuesday... weird.

Yeah she'd gone to work at 9am and hadn't called home or answered her phone when her mum called. Shes 26. So her mum turned up at mine and made me call her, and then took the phone and bollocked her. Then invited me for dinner.

Body parts? Beds?
Too many variables.

Size? Type?

For example...
If you take the entire abdominal contents of 5 average-sized men, you can put them in a bed in a roughly man-size pile, put a sheet over, position a scalp at the top, and then wait for a someone to get a mighty surprise.

I was trying to think about what vehicle it would Transform into, but then realised that if it contained all of us, there wouldn't be a need to go anywhere, so a vehicle seems a bit pointless. Perhaps it could Transform into something else.

@Z
Sounds like her mother has too much of a grip on her.

Yeah
She hates it a lot of the time, she tries to be as independent as possible but her mum is a tough lady. I think she just worries about her, because she's quite touchingly vulnerable in many ways.

@ancrenne:
Yeah, I know!!!

I'm just wondering if there's a cure for this.

@Z: Maybe she's just feeling bad about turning you down. Or maybe she wants to do the 'friends with benefits' thing (although my money's on the first option). Either way, you'll have a new friend, or at the least, fill the coffee-void that's in your stomach.

As far as her mum goes, perhaps she should just tell her mum directly that she's old enough and independent and that she can run her own life. This probably seems naive, but that's my answer to everything in life.

Meh
god knows. Have to see. I think its more the friends thing. Personally not going to rule out anything more, but the ball is in her court.

I wish the ball was in her court.

*Sniggers*

Yeah she has screaming arguments with her mum then crashes round mine bitching about it or calls me up in a fury. I think her mum is just v protective of her, especially after her dad died.

Help a flower to open?
Cut off the sepals? It won't last long, you're right.
Kind of the flower version of skinning leading to exsanguination.

@Ancrenne
Yup, she's had a hard time recently. Really miss hanging out with her... and if something develops, then thats great, but the prognosis isn't great. And if we're just friends, then I can live with that, just need some time to get over her.

The site with marry shag kill has some very strange music on...

@Zapiola
I see just what you mean about needing some time to get over her. But if she saw you as just a friend before you were turned down, she may not see your need for wanting to be apart for a while.

Well
she kind of knows all about it... because we got drunk a while ago and ended up kissing, and then talking... meh. I dunno. I want to be her friend, but I'm also kind of in love with her and more would be good... but I also enjoy spending time with her as a friend.

Its complicated.

Anyway, first full day of work tomorrow, so I'd better be going to bed. Especially since tomorrow night I have to scrub this place clean before leaving.

Oh the fun.

G'night Zapiola
Once you get over being in love, the friendship will still linger on if you keep it up. This has happened to me a few times.

I dunno about that...
If I was in love with someone (Not that I'm sure that could actually happen...) and they just wanted to be friends, then surely it'd be a position to abuse accidently with your underlying feelings?

"What do you think about my new boyfriend?"

"He's rubbish. I saw him jerking it to kiddie porn."

"That monster!" *cries*

"It's ok... Come here..." *offers shoulder*

For the record, I'm just assuming this could happen. I don't know for fact.

@Kaol
If you have the self-control, you woudn't let your underlying feelings get in the way. And besides, she could probably see through you badmouthing her new BF.

Self control?
*shrugs*

My self-control is limited to not calling idiots at work, family members, morons in shops and the police, "cunts". Beyond that, I pretty much function on whims.

Like I said, that was a hypothetical situation, anyhow.

"I think that unrequited love is a weird one. One that requires the lover to behave very well, to respect the feelings of the beloved and not expect them to feel the same or fall into the trap that Kaol suggests."

I'm with you on that.

"If this is hard, I think it's fair for the lover to remove themselves from the beloved"

True that, but if the beloved wants to do the "let's just be friends" thing and the lover removes themselves, the beloved may just think that the lover is only after one thing or doesn't want them as a friend.

"it's not the beloveds fault the lover feels the way they do and they have no duty to deal with those feelings"

But they could at least respect the other person's feelings if they don't want to reciprocate. The best way IMO is to let them know you're taking them seriously and you understand the way they feel. I admit, it is very tough for the beloved. They have to turn the lover down in a way that causes as little pain as possible. They're in a no-win situation because no matter what they do, they'll hurt them the short-term.

"But then I think love is a very strange concept."

Sometimes, I think love has similarities with some mental disorders (especially the mood-swings part).

G'night A & K
Just thought I'd tiredly answer before I go to bed.

"1) Only if the person behaves in a way which commands respect."

I agree wholeheartedly with that one!

2)They could, yes, but they do not have to. Through the actions of another person, they have been put into a situation that they did not ask for or want. No-one has the right to expect anything of anyone else in those or any/many other circumstances.

Truth, but if they did follow point 1, then if the beloved speaks their mind, that may be enough. It is inevitable that during the course of life, people will be put into situations they did not ask for or want. Being on the recieving end of unrequited love is just one such situation.

Anyway, I'm also too tired to be sensible anymore, but in the meantime, some of the how-to-dump-someone advice mentioned in this post can also be useful for when you're turning someone down.

Right, that's me off to ZZZ land now. G'night.
