We sat up on the cliffs in a little cafe watching the boiling sea for hours. And the restaurant we found had a view over the bay, lightning strikes and all the power goes out, so drinks by candlelight while they figured out how to sort dessert.

It is a two part problem, one, when it turns on it doesn't display the Channel/input it was last on just a black screen, two, the TV alarm doesn't work
They are linked, and I've gone through multiple setups testing what it could be.

Could well be something software based. The engineer won't care.
If they're sending somebody out, they're going to either update the firmware, or replace the mainboard and update the firmware.
Edit: But not something external like a Chromecast, no.

an ex-colleagues husband went with that
