'kin ages. And it was second hand. I don't think any sort of warranty is in effect.
I didn't know if it was such an acknowledged fault with the machine that M$ repaired them out of hand...

there's a firm in Birmingham who fix them for free (they charge M$)
and will do an optional fan upgrade for £15
Mrs S has sent 2 to them - they are very good and quick - excellent customer service too - will get details for you
edit: cd24-7.co.uk/ - recommended Xbox fixer A++++++++would sent broken consoles to them again
