Difficult to know what anyone can do.If there was a genuine short-term way to stop the flow, I think BP would be under irresistible pressure to implement it. So you've got to think, there genuinely is no short-term solution.
Long-term, let's be honest, it's going to make the oil industry's job a bit more difficult but it's not going to be anything more than a minor inconvenience to them in the scheme of things.
Offshore drilling will resume because the US is desperate to ease their dependency on Arab oil, but they're also desperate to hang on to everything they've got, without compromise. As I see it, this is the part that really needs to change, and certainly not just in the US.
