# I am probably going to buy a toshiba satellite L500 this afternoon
the little laptop shop on campus has them much cheaper than anybody else in town - NZ$850 including a RAM upgrade to 4GB, that's what, a couple of pints and a packet of crisps?

AM I LIKELY TO REGRET THIS DECISION, INTERNET?

Quick look says that's nearly list. But I can imagine shipping is a big slice on top of anything you buy there.

the reviews I've read for toshiba laptops are generally favourable, with some bitching about manufacturing quality / keyboard response

Rarely do I see a Toshiba come in to the shop for repairs unless it has been physically abused.

I do have a bug up my arse about dell, mainly from having dodgy reconditioned rental desktop machines at work, which I manage to break, regularly
why, this very machine spontaneously rebooted six times yesterday, although today it has been just fine

HP had some real trouble 2-3 years ago with laptops and small form desktops. System boards were just crapping out so much that HP was extending their 1 year warranty to 2 years (on selected models of course)

# Acer and Dell seems to be crapped together in the same sweatshop...
Once I fixed an Acer I used a Dell guide and the guts were *exactly* the same toys'r'us plastic junk in both brands...
The poor thing did shut down after a short while because of overheating and what did it was a quite thick plastic film between the cpu and heatsink...
