why, this very machine spontaneously rebooted six times yesterday, although today it has been just fine
need to get my shit off the hard drive pretty soon

HP had some real trouble 2-3 years ago with laptops and small form desktops. System boards were just crapping out so much that HP was extending their 1 year warranty to 2 years (on selected models of course)

Once I fixed an Acer I used a Dell guide and the guts were *exactly* the same toys'r'us plastic junk in both brands...
The poor thing did shut down after a short while because of overheating and what did it was a quite thick plastic film between the cpu and heatsink...
