They did an OK version of The Pixies' 'Debaser', albeit not as good as the original. As if anything could be.

I always had the impression I was missing out on something good that I thought was shit.

Maybe you could ease yrself in through Roxy Music, early-80s electronic gubbins or Iggy Pop. Even Suede.
