Thanks also for the advice about the black colour not necessarily being black. I also seem to recall something about the blackest black not being 100% pure black (i.e. #000000 hex) but some sort of weird variation thereof. Or is that just for print?

all it isis that your background black is the teeny tiniest bit grey, so you can sort of see a few artifacts around val's head.
