if your hard drive is creaking and whirringit's not a virus, it's a dud drive
if there's vital stuff on there you may need to go to professionals to get it off. There are lots of ads in the back of the geek press for disk rescuers.
The more you try to use it the more damage you're going to do to it.

To be honestme too. I've got no idea what kind of drive I have or what it is doing or about anything. My old housemate bought it for me from somewhere and he installed it and... well...

YeahThe noisesmake it definatly sound like it's on its last legs. I had this with my last hard drive, and this was before we knew the importance of backing up. Just be glad you got a warning about it!
