# Not for free but stumping up the prices at a time where there is a massive increase in people requiring taxis
is a bit like robbing people. We Busdrivers work over most of the Holiday period with the exception of Christmas Day and New Years Day and we don't get any pay boost or any Christmas bonus for it! - in fact our Christmas bonus is a free canteen meal on Christmas Eve all the greasy crap you can eat without puking.

# You mean at a time when they too should be down the pub or with their families?
Yeah but in the case of a London cabbie you didn't study 3-4 years to become a bus driver (you probably did a degree in drama or art to do that:P) anyway stop windging, you get to sing 'The Wheels on the Bus.'

# Like I said we work over this period too
I've hardly had much time at home either. And Taxi Drvers don't have to work over Christmas they choose to.

# Yeah but they choose to do it as they can charge more.
I the cost was the same no one wold have taxis over that period.
I take a percentage of the business takings so every christmas I work Christmas eve, day and Boxing Day and as it's always a quiet week so I actually get paid less.

# No way is it a quieter period - you have Christmas Parties, Family run arounds, and Christmas Shopping
The Taxis in Sheffield are completely out of control! As for training we don't do Illegal U-Turns, Park in Restricted Areas, and pull up at Traffic Lights to pick people up and my training is as advanced as yours as it's the same PCV training you get! What you are talking about is "The Knowledge" which you can get in a Sat-Nav thesedays!

# I read that as PVC training:D

Buses also have a timetable, while cabbies tend to crawl along to bump the fare up. Or am I imagining 30 is the speed limit on a dual carriageway?

From now on I'm tipping bus drivers and not cabbies. Mind, I don't tip them if they try to take the piss anyway. Just cos my accent ain't local, after 30 years I know this town as well as you, Mr Cabbie.

# I doubt that very much indeed...
As someone who is a year in to studying the All London Knowledge, I can tell you quite comfortably that nobody knows whats involved in learning the Knowledge of London unless you actually do it.

I bet you could tell me the route from your home to work, but could you tell me the name of each road and the sequence of the turns you have to take and points of interest you would pass along the way. All of a sudden I bet you don't know London as well as me...?!

You try recalling 15,000 road names, 20,000 points of interest, and the fastest route between point A & B. I have to do this. It's 'kin hard I'm telling you. The equivalent of a degree, AND I work full time on top of it.

Also, Black Cabs (Taxis), have a 3 tier meter charge depending on what time of day it is or whether it's a bank holiday. They can't charge what they feel like unless it's off the meter (and how many times has a Black Cab offered that to you?).

Right. Soap box away =D
