i usually just use perspective and skew to change the head direction, sometimes i don't like the differnce in the expressions from the different heads,
it's like they switch too quickly, but yeah, sometimes usuing a different head is the only option.

one only does one axis and the other, the other axis? distort will do both?
in the storm trooper gif, the expressions weren't crucial because most of his head was covered up, but i wanted to try and do it as best as i could, so i used multi angle heads

on cs5 distort may be called warp, you could probably use that too, there's still bucket loads i don't know about that program after over 2 years of usuing it.
