All sides suffered, Turks, French, British, ANZACS, the lot. Reading about how many died in a flash flood when the soldiers on both sides were too ill, cold and exhausted to climb out of their slit trenches rather than drown makes me feel very relieved I've never had to face that sort of thing.
Just finished reading one of the funniest war stories ever written about how a Welshman and an Australian fooled the Turks into being exchanged by convincing them they were telepathic.

There aren't many books that will make laugh like a kid on nitrous oxide, but this was one.
Looks like someone's taken advantage of the copyright expiry:
www.lulu.com/product/paperback/the-road-to-en-dor/174034
Expensive compared to 2nd-hand on Amazon. Having published on Lulu, I can see they're making up to 14 squid a copy.

I love QBD and Basement Books in Sydney - much cheaper and more likely to have decent wildlife books.
