I liked Hislop's use of the word "tad" when he described it as"a tad hypocritical".

I remember reading an account of a fire-fight in the Faulklands conflict, where a soldier called out"I've lost my leg, Sir!"
To which the response was, "No you haven't I can see it from here - keep firing!"
