Doesn't gimp do animations thinking about it....
EDIT... yes gimp does do animations according to this, end of second pargraph...

are they're any like Flash were I could animate objects moving over tiff backgrounds? synfig doesn't allow me to import images

Not that I know of now.

It might be worth having a look on CNET, I downloaded several flash editing suits off there some years back, but they were all flash 5 so stuggled with transparencies, but they were free and good enough for certain things,

But then I downloaded Macromedia 2004 pro and got a key for it, so haven;t really needed to look for anything else for years....
