# Not even that.
They're refusing to support more than a handful of applications. They cite the cost of funding the wages gap ($19,000/year), despite the fact that they get $125,000/year for any of us lucky enough to get in. The few who have got through fall into two camps: people who already have funding and can successfully use a loophole in the funding rules (which reduces the department's wages bill) and three poor fuckers who have to take big pay cuts and do 30% teaching. They decided my application was 'not competitive', despite UNSW offerring me a stipend of $1,000 to submit it through them and Monash have jumped at the project and said very nice things about it.

# Yeah it sucks when you end up getting the grant, but with no way of paying your wages.
are you submitting through either UNSW or Monash?

# Monash.
But I'll probably have to do a year in Blighty first. The timing's worked out badly on everything so far.

# There's a post I'm applying for at Herriot-Watt
which would cover the gap in work between the end of the current position and the potential start of a DECRA, but they won't pay any relocation allowance. Tight buggers.
