Behind the Scenes at the Museum by Kate Atkinson is my recommendation.
I've liked all her books, but this is my favourite - definitely the best one to start with if you haven't read any others.

But looking at the second Amazon review, saying: "Ruby tells the story of her family exploring complex family relationships..." moved it down my list of priorities.
Just about to start BS Johnson's "Christie Malry's Own Double Entry" though, so might return to Kate Atkinson after that.
Should have the newish Roky Erickson record this time tomorrow; will keep y'all posted.

It's a book of unrelenting melancholy. Which I like.

Christie Malry's Own Double Entry is very good, though, but not as filthy as the title might suggest :)
