# I really liked Happiness
but I'm not quite sure why

# was it the child molestation
or kid having a wank that you liked the most?

# Oh come on
You didn't like it, so anyone who does is stupid?

What is this, the internet?

I really liked it. It was refreshing to see a film show what is probably the reality of a horrible event, without needlessly demonising or glorifying anyone involved.

I don't need a child molester to be greasy and ugly and a bit camp, and have a dungeon, and mummy issues, to tell me that he's doing a bad thing. I can come to that conclusion myself.

...and it was funny. Jon Lovitz was excellent. It's a shame some can't see past the subject matter.

# Can't see past the subject matter...?
That's a bit of an 'Apart from that, how did you find the play, Mrs Lincoln?' kind of statement.

# Haha excellent expression.
But seriously, there are plenty of things which deal in horrible subjects which are nevertheless fantastic. I mean, most action/adventure movies feature dozens of violent deaths, right?

# Absolutely, and I couldn't agree more.
Something about that film (and the sequel, to a lesser extent) was just deeply unsettling and unpleasant. I know I'm being vague, but it's very difficult to pin down.

Edit: That said - the sequel had the chap who played Omar from The Wire in it. Which was nice.

# I didn't realize there was a sequel?
I do agree, it's a genuinely unsettling movie, but I also have to say I thought it had a lot of dark humour in it. I like uncomfortable laughter.

# Indeedy - Life During Wartime...
Came out err - last year, I think.

It's a shame some can't see past the subject matter.

Also, I didn't actually say I hated the film, I said it was horrible, things can be horrible, like horror films and stuff that's meant to make you feel uneasy. It had merits in approaching a story, the acting and so forth, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone other than film students or beardy pretentious types.

I resent the implication that I have a beard.
