it's a ten book epic, alas only one book turned into an anime and only two books translated into English.
Scrapped Princess was good.
as was Level E
but then I liked Sora no otoshimono, due to it's excess comedic perviness and idiocy and 10% plot, sorry.
edit: also, I'm liking fairy tail though it is a lot generic it's quite amusing.
Gintama was awesome but it seems to have lost something during it's haitus.
Black Lagoon was rather good too.

The art style drew me in - its a breath of fresh air. Pretty good, crude humour for an anime too - kind of like powerpuff girls meets south park.

:)
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi by the same folks was another good one, once you get your head around it. it's largely insane humour for the most of it too.

I love Gainax, but i hate what theyve done with evangelion now though.
Ive seen Abenobashi and quite liked all the pop culture references in that one episode (rocky, fist of the north star, bruce lee etc). Cant remember much else about it though :-/

japan was already pretty fucked economically now it's hurtling into the shitter, anime's probably not the highest of their worries.
