(how's the book?)
the books a no go
not enough money for shit loads of work, and no time to do it in, they also wanted me to part with 30 or so ideas for 250 quid i told em bollocks , politely of course.
as regards the helmet you might try this, get a suitably sized light bulb take off the ferrule with the contacts in and break the vacuum.
then get a glass cutter and score a line around it where you want it to break.
then warm up the glass a bit with a flame the expansion will cause the glass to break along the scored line *sometimes* i have had a bit of success with this teqnique, of late but it takes a few goes.
scoring with a dremmel wheel is better bit it can crack if you're not careful.
grind the edges carefully or youl cut your fucking fingers off messing with it.
also be on the lookout for halloween stuff in the pound shops i got some good ones last year from ghost type halloween snow globes

its sounds like the same old story of creatives getting shafted by the glorified sales types
same story in the illustration industry. Go it alone at your own pace and market it. things impossible in the old days are all doable thanks to the internet. sourcing printers, marketing and finding your audience to promote yourself. And you get 100% of teh profits and complete control :)
EDIT: you could even print it b/w on the pulp paper they use for free newspapers like Stool Pidgeon etc. And make it so it's part of the appeal with a retro look to it. I'm having a go with something this myself. Lulu is such a rip off
nice idea with the lightbulbs, i'm limited with equipment though. funnily enough there's a bargain shop in town which sells plastic lightbulbs with little sweets in that light up I was thinking of using but he's doing them at £3.50 which is way too much given the amount I want to sell the finished dolls for
