I think Cloverfield was the pinacle of the shaky-cam films, IMHO.Which is why JJ Abrams and Co. have painted themselves in a corner with a prequel (as they had previously alluded to) as you couldn't possibily do the same stunt again and it would lose it's impact as you would know what was coming. In the original there are little clips (Easter-Eggs) that show a sub-plot of a Japanese Chemical Company who's satelite dish falls to Earth falling into the Atlantic Ocean, and is said to awaken the ancient monster who comes ashore at Cloverfields Manhatten.
