
XP black or some such pants? Last system I witnessed with that had 72 infections after a fresh installation.

It takes years to get that sort of problem from a clean install. Therefore it's a hardware problem. Either motherboard, or RAM. Can't be hard drive as he's already changed it. The trouble with that is that shouldn't cause your hard-drive to fill up with bollocks.
